A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING MR. JOHN SCYSTER THROOP, JR., FOR HIS MANY YEARS OF OUTSTANDING PUBLIC SERVICE.

WHEREAS, Mr. John Scyster Throop, Jr., born December 19, 1918, has served the citizens of Water Valley, Mississippi, for over fifty years; and

WHEREAS, in 1940, Mr. Throop received his bachelor's degree from Davidson College, and in 1947, he earned a law degree from the University of Mississippi Law School; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Throop, a retired Major in the United States Army, faithfully served his country from 1941 to 1946 and 1951 to 1952 in the United States, Japan, Okinawa and Guam; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Throop's professional career includes his private law practice in Water Valley, Mississippi, since 1947, his service as a State Senator from 1954 to 1955 and service as a Municipal Judge from 1977 to 1989, a Special Judge in Chancery Court from 1984 to 1998, and attorney for the Water Valley School District for 15 years; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Throop is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Bar Association, the Mississippi State Bar Association and the Yalobusha County Bar Association; and

WHEREAS, an active leader in his community, Mr. Throop has served as President of the Water Valley Junior Chamber of Commerce, President of the Water Valley Rotary Club, President and charter member of the Yalobusha Country Club and the Grand Marshal of the Water Valley Christmas Parade in 1997; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Throop has been a member of the First Presbyterian Church since 1948, where he also serves as a Deacon; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Throop has been lovingly supported in all his endeavors by his late wife, Mrs. Carlisle Sykes Throop; three children, India, Carlisle and Ruth; and five grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and pay special tribute to such outstanding Mississippians as Mr. Throop, who has dedicated his life to serving the citizens of Water Valley and the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend Mr. John Scyster Throop, Jr., for his many years of public service to the State of Mississippi and extend to him our heartiest wishes for many years of good health, happiness, peace and joy.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. John Scyster Throop, Jr., and members of the Capitol Press Corps.
